Cindy Mawle
Cindy’s favourite Christmas present was an art kit from her grandparents when she was very young. The kit was filled with pencils, charcoal, blending stumps, pastels, paints and paper. A few years later a neighbour recognized Cindy’s creative abilities and took her to painting classes.
Years later, Cindy spent much of her time perfecting pencil renderings and later started adding a little pastel to her drawings. Then she found acrylics. It’s interesting how the qualities of acrylics she struggled with years ago are the qualities that she loves most now.
Cindy was born in Victoria, B.C. and grew up in Sooke. She moved to Alberta in 1987 where she and her daughter lived for 17 years. Cindy moved back to Vancouver Island in 2001 and lives with her husband in Bowser.
While living in Alberta, Cindy completed several workshops which helped her overcome her fear of colour and taught her under painting techniques that became very valuable in developing her own personal style. During that time Cindy taught children drawing for 9 years in Didsbury, Alberta and was invited to teach art to children at the festival of the midnight sun in Yellowknife, NWT.
Aside from taking workshops over the years, Cindy is self taught. She consciously chooses to work independently in order to develop her own individual style. The mood that light and shadow creates is the predominant factor that excites her when choosing her subjects.
Cindy is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.

Artist’s Statement
I need to create. It comes from deep within in the form of emotion that needs to be placed in some form or order. I see shapes, color, light and shadow all around me that excite me. I am intrigued and fascinated by the creative energy that fills my soul. The child who was once fascinated by finger paints and plastercine has now moved on to acrylic and canvas.
