Singer/Songwriter Simon Kempston (from Scotland)

Simon Kempston is ‘one of Scotland’s best songwriters’ (The Sunday Herald) and leading fingerstyle guitarists. Simon’s original, distinctive guitar playing is founded upon a complex, finger-picking style which technically reveals his classical training yet is steeped in the history of the folk, blues and celtic traditions and is complemented by Simon’s rich, powerful and compelling clipped vocal style. Immerse yourself in the soundscape of this incredibly talented performer and allow his beautifully crafted folk-tinged songs to transport you on a uniquely Scottish journey.

Harpist Josh Lane

Victoria Harpist/composer Josh Layne has been called a 'harp genius' and a 'consummate musician'.  As a performer he has given solo recitals across Canada, the US, and in Europe and South America as well as giving performances of five of the major harp concertos.

The Nick La Riviere Quartet

Trombonist Nick La Riviere has performed in many parts of the world, including Mexico, England, Ireland, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, The USA, and across Canada. In addition to trombone, he plays conch shells, bass, and sings. Nick plays with many different bands including The Paperboys, Locarno, The HiFi, and Michael Kaeshammer.

Stephen Hardy Palmer

A not-to-be-missed, Gatineau-based traveling (throughout Canada and the U.S.) troubadour who sings about life and simple pleasures with all the unhurried authority of a quiet and simple folk-singing road-survivor who is sometimes compared to Hoyt Axton, Leonard Cohen, or John Prine.  Stephen will enchant and entertain us with his superb guitar playing, wide-range of songs (including fun sing-alongs), resonant voice, and engaging banter (that always has his audiences in stitches).

Oleg Pokhanovski, violin and Scott Meek, piano

Back again by intense popular demand! The distinguished violin professor at the University of Manitoba's Desautels Faculty of Music joins with one of Vancouver's most brilliant, rapidly rising, young piano stars to bring us another exhilarating programme of Mr. Pokhanovski's most recent violin/piano transcriptions of works by the great masters.

The internationally acclaimed concert pianist and University of Victoria piano faculty member is joined by one of Boston's most in-demand chamber musicians for a delightful afternoon that will include flute/piano transcriptions of compositions by Brahms and Debussy.

This Ontario-born, Netherlands-based pianist who, in recent years, has been garnering rave reviews with his busy schedule of recitals all over the world will treat us to a programme of works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann and Oskar Morawetz.

The Susannah Adams Quartet

A versatile and ever creative musician, London, England (now residing in Victoria, BC) vocalist Susannah Adams has performed in numerous and diverse ensembles with many of Victoria’s top musicians and is rapidly forging a solid reputation as one of British Columbia's finest, new jazz singers.

It has been quite a while since our Christmas-themed fall series finale has utilized the jazz idiom, and we are pleased to remedy that with a superb quartet that features the versatile talents of this outstanding, young Vancouver-based clarinetist. We hope that the intriguing arrangements of well-known seasonal favourites will help to get you into the Holiday Spirit!
