Jan. 12

Gershwin Galore

An entire afternoon devoted to one of the most well-loved composers of the twentieth century.  A variety of instrumental and vocal combinations will delight you with some of the "classical" compositions as well as the great jazz evergreens from the pens of George and Ira.
Featuring vocalist Miranda Sage, pianist/vocalist Tony Booker, clarinetist Liam Hockley, pianist Ron Hadley, bassist Joey Smith and drummer Hans Verhoeven.

Pierre-André Doucet, piano

Don't miss this solo recital by one of Canada's most distinctive and engaging young artists. Mr. Doucet, the 2013 winner of the prestigious Knigge National Piano Competition, hails from New Brunswick and is currently a doctoral candidate at the Université de Montréal, where he studies under Maneli Pirzadeh. The program will include works by Scarlatti, Liszt and Jared Miller.

The Becky Noble Quintet

Qualicum Beach native and Vancouver-based alto saxophonist, Becky Noble, celebrates a special hometown launch of her recent album, “Salish Folk Song”, by bringing together some of her favourite west coast musicians. The afternoon will feature Noble’s original compositions and arrangements, supported by a stellar cast. With Phil Dwyer–tenor saxophone & piano, Tristan Paxton–guitar, Ken Lister–bass, Omar Amlani–drums,  (Special guest: Kyla Campbell – voice)

The Goldberg Variations (J.S. Bach) Arranged for String Trio

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra lends us three of its accomplished members for an intriguing string trio interpretation of this great Bach masterpiece originally written for harpsichord.

It is our great pleasure to again work with The Lafayette String Quartet to present their leading students who have excelled at playing an entire unaccompanied Sonata, Partita or Suite by J.S. Bach by memory.

These two superb Vancouver musicians return for the final performance in their ongoing project to spotlight the works of Czech composers. Today's concert will feature works by
Josef Foerster, Oscar Nedbal, Josef Suk, Bohuslav Martinu and Antonin Dvorak.

This extraordinary Vancouver trumpeter, who has shared the stage with a veritable who's who list of jazz luminaries and appeared on hundreds of recordings for TV, feature films, commercials and albums brings us a tasteful afternoon of standards and original tunes.

One of Vancouver's finest jazz and Latin music guitarists, Daryl has played all over the world and maintains a busy schedule as a  performer, studio musician, composer, producer, musical director and teacher.  With Ron Hadley-piano, Ken Lister-bass and Buff Allen-drums

Ceilidh Briscoe-fiddle and Wayne Briscoe-guitar, voice

19-year-old All-Ireland Fiddle Champion Ceilidh Briscoe (the first junior Canadian fiddler to earn such a distinction) studies the lyrical, Sligo style of fiddling and exhibits a musical maturity and command of the instrument rarely found in an artist of her age. She and her guitarist/vocalist Dad will come from Victoria to fill our gallery with the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, and they advise you to bring along your singing voices...

North America's hottest young woodwind quintet is coming to The Old School House Arts Centre!  Based in Houston, Texas, WindSync has been garnering international rave reviews for not only their excellent musicianship but also for the adventurous, creative ways in which they push the boundaries of the woodwind quintet by incorporating theatrical and kinetic dimensions into their performances. Two of Vancouver's finest young pianists bring us a unique and captivating program that will feature four hands/one piano pieces as well as solo selections and focus on transcriptions of famous orchestral pieces by Grieg, Gershwin, Bizet, Brahms and Dvorak.

Ever since the Dal Richards Orchestra's inimitable pianist/vocalist sang her last note here two years ago, an emphatic mantra has been continuously reverberating throughout our gallery: "Invite her to come back SOON!"  Well, we aim to please...but, please get your tickets early!

These two superb, young artists currently working on advanced degrees in performance at the University of British Columbia School of Music bring us an all-German program featuring works by Johannes Brahms and Alban Berg.

Gwen Thompson, violin and Rosemary O'Connor, piano)

This celebrated. Victoria-based violinist returns to our series with one of Vancouver's most in-demand chamber music pianists to treat us to a delightful program that will feature the Mozart B flat sonata K. 454,  the Beethoven "Spring" Sonata and the Franck Sonata.
