The variety of local birds is also a source of inspiration for Kelly. From cute pudgy quail to sleek and graceful birds of prey, Kelly gravitates towards the delicate detail required to represent these interesting creatures. Can you describe your daily/weekly art practice, anything that you do differently because your studio is in such proximity ?

I have always had a home studio, though I really do miss my art residency studios. I paint almost every day, sometimes only 30 min, sometimes more than 6 hours.

Has this time of self-isolation changed your practice in any way. I know a lot of artists are missing things (materials, space, etc). Has this time pushed you to be more creative or think outside the box in your practice, can you give us an
example?

For me its mostly same as usual. Keep painting as much as possible. However with a lot of my art exhibitions and events getting cancelled it has made me concerned about the future of my art sales. I'm always looking for any way to get more art exposure. With more and more people turning to the internet, one new thing I started doing is videos.

Before it was too far out of my comfort zone to attempt. However now I see all the big league art galleries and artists doing it and I don't want to get left behind :) I'm actually finding it kind of fun! My goal with my videos is to share my art and answer any questions people might have. From art marketing questions to how do I do it questions, I'm willing to share my secrets. You can check out my videos on my instagram @kelly_corbett_artist and on my facebook page @kellycorbettartist Have an art question for me? I'd love to hear from you, send me an email at hello@kellycorbett.ca

4) What is your favourite part about your home-studio?

That I have an ocean view.

5) Do you have any goals of creativity for this time?

Paint as much as possible. Be very diligent with my social media marketing. Work on making
more videos.

6) Any messages you would like to share with everyone during this time.
For those that might be feeling overwhelmed or stressed with the current events: When the pandemic started I had a hard time concentrating on my work. I found that by taking a lot of short breaks while painting that I was still able to get a lot of work done. And after a while I was able to maintain my focus for longer.
