2025 EXHIBITION APPLICATION

 

One of the ways that we fulfill our mandate of supporting artists at The Old School House Arts Centre is by offering exhibitions in a variety of mediums throughout the year, with shows that run approximately six to eight weeks in length.

We provide artists with exhibition space, we assist in installation, and we work with artists to advertise and promote the exhibition.

The commission on sales is 60% to the artist.

Applications are open for residents of the region (Vancouver Island and BC), all work must be delivered in person and cannot be shipped.

There is a nonrefundable administrative fee of $25 for applying

We offer three sizes of gallery spaces (see below for floor plans).

Brown Gallery

The Brown Gallery has 64 running feet.


Dorothy Francis Gallery

The Dorothy Francis Gallery has 42 running feet.


Volunteer Gallery

The Volunteer Gallery has 35 running feet.



The deadline for the 2025 Exhibition Season is January 5th, 2024

Entries are curated by the Executive Director, and artists will be informed of their successful application by February 9th, 2024.

Unsuccessful applications will not be contacted.

Exhibition proposals cannot be mailed or submitted in person.

If you cannot submit an online proposal please call our arts centre for more information. Please note the arts centre will be closed from December 15th through January 9th for our winter break.

Step 1: EMAIL Artwork Samples and Curriculum Vitae

First, Please submit five to ten images which document the type of work to be exhibited. Please include your name and Exhibition Application in the title of the email. If you are sending us a website displaying the work you wish to exhibit, you do not need to email artwork samples, simply your CV.

Artwork must be the original creation of the artist. See “Information on Copyright for the Artist” below, to note, AI generated work will not be accepted.

NOTE: Please re-name all files to include your name before uploading to ensure your files are bundled correctly. Example: Name_title.jpg

Also, please only upload JPEG or JPG files for your images.

Artists who do not submit according to these guidelines will not be considered.

Step 4: Wait for TOSH to get back to you…selected candidates will be contacted by february 9th, 2024 regarding their applications.

The director has scheduled a limited number of office hour appointments, if you wish to meet with the Director regarding your application, please Call the arts centre to schedule an appointment.


**We deeply respect the cultural rights of Indigenous Peoples. It is requested that artists’ work be culturally appropriate in its content.

** Artists must ensure that their work does not infringe on any copyright. Artwork derived from the work of another artist is not permissible.

All artists should familiarize themselves with Canadian copyright laws. If you are still unsure whether or not your work would be eligible, please email our office well in advance of the submission deadline.

The Old School House Arts Center retains the right to remove any artwork from adjudication that may contravene copyright laws or show standards. The Old School House Arts Center also retains the right to refuse eligibility for any artist that has violated or not adhered to guidelines.
