What started as a practical purchase - a drone because it had become standard in real estate media - gradually turned into something far more engaging. The more time I spent with the remote in my hands, the more I began to notice how it changed the way I saw Qualicum Beach. Colours feel different from above, landscapes become art forms, compositions gain a new relevance and shadows tell the story of a perspective shifted.

In a small town, it’s easy to get used to the same views and familiar landmarks. We see them every day, often from the same angles. Sometimes new tool is all we need to start seeing things in a whole new light, as we do from above.

Baxter Redfern is a photographer based in Qualicum Beach, BC, with nearly 20 years of experience as a professional. A husband and father, his work is shaped by everyday life with the people he loves most and his deep connection to the outdoors.
