ESTABLISHED IN 2026
The Sheila McGiverin bentley
Legacy Fund for the Arts
A lasting fund for the arts at TOSH, held with the Parksville Qualicum Beach Community Foundation.
Established in 2026 by Sheila's daughter as a tribute to her mother, this fund invites others to leave a legacy gift supporting the arts at The Old School House Arts Centre — in a community that meant and means so much to them both.
ABOUT THE FUND
A dedicated fund for the arts, held in trust
The Sheila McGiverin Bentley Legacy Fund is a dedicated community fund held and administered by the Parksville Qualicum Community Foundation. PQCF handles all receipting, stewardship, and reporting — so every gift is managed professionally and directed to support the arts at TOSH.
This fund welcomes anyone who wishes to make support for the arts part of their lasting legacy.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Two Ways to Support the Arts at TOSH
01
SUPPORT TOSH TODAY
Donations made today help fund exhibitions, programs, and the day-to-day work of the arts centre — the events and experiences that connect our community right now.
02 LEAVE A LEGACY
Legacy gifts help build the Sheila McGiverin Bentley Legacy Fund and protect the future of the arts at TOSH — ensuring the arts remain part of our community for generations to come.
WE NEED BOTH:
One sustains our work today.
The other protects the future of the arts
in our community.
SHEILA MCGIVERIN BENTLEY AND THE OLD SCHOOL HOUSE
Sheila McGiverin Bentley loved this place with her whole heart. The summers she spent in Qualicum Beach, and a school year within these very walls were among the happiest of her childhood and shaped her in ways that lasted a lifetime. Though she made her home in Victoria, she never stopped loving this close-knit seaside town. She went on to build a remarkable life, becoming known for her achievements in golf and her leadership within the sport, and equally admired for her curiosity, humour, loyalty, and deep commitment to family and community.
The sense of belonging she found here as a young girl, never left her. Sheila believed thoroughly in giving back to the communities she loved. Now, through her daughter's generosity, she is giving back to this one, to the very building where part of her story began.
WHAT IS LEGACY GIVING?
Legacy gifts are planned gifts included in your will or financial planning. Many people choose to include a charitable gift in their will after taking care of family and loved ones.
A legacy gift to the Sheila McGiverin Bentley Fund is a way of saying: the arts mattered to me, and I want them to matter here long after I'm gone.
Many legacy gifts also provide tax advantages in Canada. A financial advisor or estate planner can help determine what option may be right for you.
The Sheila McGiverin Bentley Legacy Fund is held by the Parksville Qualicum Community Foundation — a trusted local foundation that ensures your gift is receipted, stewarded professionally, and directed to support the arts at TOSH.
