Ken Morgan

Hi, I’m Ken Morgan. I work mainly in acrylic on canvas but sometimes use mixed media and different grounds. I live in tranquil Qualicum Beach where self isolation is much easier with a view of forests and ocean and a sound track of singing birds.

My career was as an art teacher after a diploma from the Alberta College of Art and Design and an Education degree from the University of Calgary. My work could be called subjective realism with an emphasis on patterns and connections.

My studio is a former family room with a spare bedroom converted for art storage. I share the studio with my beautiful partner, Teresa, who does floral art. I have adapted this space by designing and building a large art cart and painting storage racks. I do paint daily and have become adept at ignoring many of the home and garden jobs that call out to me. Between making my own stretcher frames and often painting over old canvases, I can stay isolated for months and months. My favourite part of working from home is being able to call on Teresa to critique ongoing work as she has a strong art background and a generous nature.

My goal is always to push myself to explore our connections and limitation in relating to our fellow humans. I feel most artists are very good at a solitary, introverted existence and are probably least put out of anyone during this crisis. Having purpose is an important aspect of life but sharing is essential so thanks to Illana for doing this.
