Kat Cearns
Life is Good
Cearns has been creating "cottagecore" since before it was trending, acrylic works evoking whimsical and nostalgic scenes that remind us : "life is good"
Still in the emerging phase of her career as an artist, Cearns, along with her skills, is rapidly growing and changing as she dedicates more of her time to drawing and painting. The animals and plants that so enthralled her as a child are still the focus of her work. She wants to use her art to help share her appreciation for what many people see as the little things in life, those little things all add up to what makes life beautiful.
From Kat:
"The title “Life is Good” was conceived with the first painting created for this show. These works are all about noticing and being grateful for the beauty and joy that can be found around us every day. When the pandemic started changing how we live our lives, the meaning in the words “Life is Good” started to shift for me. The gratitude I feel for the small comforts and moments of beauty has been profoundly intensified.
As I write this statement, during a world-wide protest movement of anti-racism highlighting the inequalities that people of colour suffer in our world, I am experiencing the realization that my privilege runs deep. With all the pain and unfairness in the world, I understand a title like “Life is Good” could be viewed as tone deaf or flippant. My intention in sticking with this name now is to say: The good life should be for everyone. Feeling joy while flying through a park on a bike is universal. The comfort of home cooking and meals with loved ones is experienced by everyone and so very human. The beauty of nature is for all of us cherish and share. All people deserve the equal ability to enjoy these little moments that make up the beauty in life. "
