CHRISTINE HOOD: SLIPSTREAM

On View From: Sept 1 - Oct 31 2026

During a time of global unrest and environmental crisis, we are propelled in a slipstream often defined by forces outside our control — environmental, political and institutional actions and decisions.

Yet as humans, we have to navigate and move forward in our day-to-day lives with personal meaning, integrity and authenticity, guided by a more moral and compassionate compass.

My work and process are an attempt to make sense of this juxtaposition of frailty and resilience. It is reflected in the hard textures, forms, mediums and tones of my aesthetic, always tempered by a softening, often found in nature.

The work reflects how I live and see the world. It holds its own narrative of vulnerability and tenacity.

Trying to instigate individual agency and steer my own path is a daily challenge..

ABOUT CHRISTINE HOOD

Christine Hood is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works on Hornby Island, where her studio has been located for the past ten years.

Working primarily with metal, ceramic, vines and found objects, Christine creates functional works, sculpture and installation pieces in a restrained palette of neutral, white, black and grey tones. Often raw and organic, her work develops through an intuitive process deeply influenced by Hornby Island’s natural environment.

Christine holds a Bachelor of Education from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Education in Art Education from the University of Victoria. Before developing her teaching and art practice, she worked in visual presentation and design in the United Kingdom and Canada.

Her exhibition and residency history spans more than 15 years.
