THIS PLACE

This series of artwork was created during the months leading up to my pregnancy, throughout its duration, and in the months that followed—with a newborn in tow. Bringing a life into “This Place” is a strange and significant responsibility. “This Place” became the theme of the show. It refers not only to Earth in its entirety, but also to the piece of land we inhabit on this wet and often grey island.

So to my son, and to all the newcomers: welcome to This Place.
At times, it feels like magic.

BROOKE EMILY

Brooke is a Vancouver Island-based artist who draws on the rugged West Coast as an ever-evolving source of inspiration. Often working with a variety of mediums, from oils to inks to cold wax.

With a BFA in Visual Art + Design and a concentration in Creative Writing, Brooke loves the collaboration of illustration and text and has an active interest in kid-lit and graphic novels.

Additionally, Brooke loves to encourage others in their enjoyment of the creative process. This has led her to work with kids, guiding their artmaking experience in both classrooms and after-school or summer workshops.
