LET GO

Artist Statement:

Here goes- I am very passionate about all things art. I feel empowered by those who create it and those who encourage the creativity of others. I love surrounding myself with art, I actually go out and seek it. Finding pieces that speak to me and bring them into a space is the best feeling. Since I can remember, I would tell everyone I wanted to be an artist. Just simply a creative, passionate, stylistic person who unapologetically made and did cool things.

Having been out of my studio for over 9 years, I found myself in self discovery mode all over again. While having my own big ideas and the inspiration from other artists, I continuously came back to the same colorful brush strokes and rhythms that allowed me to describe my vision of both form and story from the beginning.

The pieces in this exhibit are a combination of old and new images that simply spoke to me. They helped me get to the canvas when I felt stuck. The title of this show is LET GO. A simple term that lent itself to many different meanings throughout the process. It originally was about letting go of the fear of getting back into the studio after so long. Will I be able to get that connection back with the brush? How will I find the time? What about my other responsibilities? Will it all come together? What will people think of my work? and so on.

A really brilliant friend of mine said to me during this process after mentioning I was worried I was going to mess this up, said “you can’t mess up art can you”?

That simple statement allowed me to see that it was only me holding me back.
