PROJECT
FOUNDATIONAL INQUIRIES IN CREATIVE TOURISM ON VANCOUVER ISLAND
Exploring how arts and tourism can strengthen communities.
The Old School House Arts Centre partnered with Creative Coast on a research initiative exploring how arts, culture, and tourism can work together to create more meaningful visitor experiences while supporting local artists, creative entrepreneurs, and communities across Vancouver Island.
Funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, the project brought together artists, tourism professionals, researchers, and community leaders to examine global best practices, engage local stakeholders, and develop a Vancouver Island approach to Creative Tourism.
The resulting report provides a locally grounded definition of Creative Tourism built on four values, Grounded, Relational, Networked, and Supported. It highlights opportunities for collaboration between the arts and tourism sectors, and outlines recommendations to help grow a sustainable creative economy throughout the region.
