Books at The Old School House
Whether you're building an art library or looking for a gift with a story behind it, our book collection has something for every kind of art lover.
TASCHEN Art Books
We carry a wide selection of TASCHEN titles, known for their rich reproductions and accessible writing. Start with the Basic Art Series, a perfect introduction to artists like Klimt, Matisse, Magritte and Basquiat, or treat yourself to the larger anniversary and Bibliotheca Universalis editions on Van Gogh, Japanese woodblock prints, the Bauhaus and more.
Books by Local Artists
Some of our favourite books were made by people you might meet in our halls.
Divas & Deadlines by Vivien Frow is a lively memoir of life backstage, drawn from four decades of theatre costuming at places like the Bristol Old Vic and the Royal Shakespeare Company. The idea for the book was sparked by a conversation with visitors in Studio 8, right here at The Old School House.
Artyquotes by Mary Leigh Campbell gathers 90 reproductions of her hand-pulled prints alongside poetry, prose and musings on balancing the life of an artist with the life of a mother. It's a coffee table book made for slow browsing and good conversation.
New local titles arrive throughout the year, so check back often or visit us in Qualicum Beach to see what's on the shelf.
