PRINTMAKING
Make Art Prints from a Photo
With Teacher Don Goedbloed
Nov 21 & 28, 2026 | 10am - 3pm
In this 2-day workshop, students will be introduced to Photo Etching, or more precisely Photo Polymer Etching.
This printing practice uses steel plates which are coated with ultraviolet light sensitive photo polymer. This is a safe, fast, and simple alternative to traditional etching. All that is needed is imagination, and a UV exposure unit and tap water to develop the image.
Students will explore various ways to create unique plates and prints. Materials such as inks, brayers and plates (2.75" x 4") and paper will be provided.
Supply List
$35 material fee to be paid to the instructor at the start of the first class.
Teacher Bio
Photographer Don Emerson has been making images for more than four decades, from early 1980s prairie journeys spent under the black cloth hood of his four-by-five view camera, photographing old granaries and the light on snow fences along railway tracks, to the present day. He spent many years as a school portrait photographer. His work spans still lifes, encounters with Indigenous and Irish cultures, and images captured in quiet moments, shaped by his attention to size, symbolism, balance, light, and juxtaposition. Married to painter Norma Emerson since 1980, Don has shared a vibrant creative life, and is full of generous encouragement. He built the darkroom studio in 1988!
His work reflects on how photography connects memory, community, and society.
